Bird Banding Bags
Riveredge Nature Center is looking for volunteers to make homemade bird bags to keep birds warm, dry, and calm while they wait their turn to be measured and banded as part of their MAPS Program.
Why this Kindness Project Matters
Riveredge Nature Center is deemed a a Priority Migratory Stopover Site for birds by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. It's estimated to host more than 10,000 landbirds during spring and fall migration. Since 1999, Riveredge's volunteer bird banding program, MAPS (Measuring Avian Productivity and Survival), has made great strides in understanding the dynamics of how bird populations thrive on our landscape. Homemade bird bags keep birds warm, dry, and calm while they wait their turn to be measured and banded during Riveredge Nature Center's annual spring banding project.
