Cafe Manager

Full Time

The Social Brews Cafe Manager serves as the key face of our nonprofit coffee shop/cafe. You’ll engage with the community while being responsible for all aspects of running our unique cafe operation. This full-time role includes managing team members (all staff & volunteers) and setting the tone and personality of the café. You wil be an advocate for training, customer service, product knowledge and education, encouraging safe work practices, and a demonstrated commitment to the Volunteer Center mission. Schedule requires weekends but you can expect a normal work week not to exceed 40 hours.

Job Description

Specific day-to-day responsibilities and expectations: 

Customer Service:

  • Leads by example for all staff and volunteers, a high level of customer service for all customers, leading to positive interactions and experiences at The Hub.
  • Maintain and ensure all aspects of the customer experience as it relates to The Hub and overall mission of the Volunteer Center of Washington County.
  • Includes taking ownership and pride in the delivery of all products and services, store layout and presentation, customer satisfaction, dispute resolutions, etc.

Managing & Directing Staff (Paid employees and volunteers):

  • Manages day-to-day communication and directs staff on operational tasks
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships that motivate quality service and teamwork
  • Assists with recruitment process for new employees and volunteers
  • Responsible for quality training of all new employees to ensure success
  • Responsible for scheduling, which may include reaching out to volunteers to ensure all shifts have proper coverage
  • Complete and deliver regular feedback sessions and performance reviews 

Ordering and Inventory:

  • Monitor and communicate when amounts of products are low.
  • Inspect deliveries for accuracy and quality; resolve discrepancies directly with the vendor
  • Ensure POS stays up to date with products, inventory and pricing
  • Maintain outdated and expired product

Menu Planning and Promotion:

  • Develop inspiring menu items on a timely basis to freshen assortment seasonally (at minimum).
  • Ensure proper communication, training, and pricing is effective. Review performance and tweak as needed to ensure profitability and customer satisfaction
  • Ensure that the Marketing Specialist has all information necessary to communicate cafe news to customers through social media, including release dates and photos/videos of new products, merchandise, promotions, etc.

Compliance/Operations:

  • Required to receive and maintain food safety certification and liquor license
  • Adhere to all federal and state food and health safety guidelines
  • Maintain daily, weekly and monthly cleaning checklist

Merchandising:

  • Maintain all areas of merchandised goods including; stocking, rotation of product and cleaning
  • Signage of all items
  • Ensuring photos are uploaded onto the Square POS system in a timely manner

Cash Management:

  • Maintain Square POS system; Opening and closing procedures, inventory management, item management, iPad charging and charging systems.
  • Ensure proper cash is on hand at all times
  • Take deposits to the bank
  • Provide deposit slips to accounts receivable

General Maintenance:

  • Ensure all equipment is in good working order
  • Call vendors and/or maintenance providers when necessary to address any issues
  • Document all maintenance calls and service

Job Requirements

Here’s who we’re looking for: 

Education: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: 

  • Previous experience in a managerial role within the food and beverage industry. (Coffee Experience +) 
  • Experience in customer service and working in a cafe or restaurant setting.

Skills: 

  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems and other cafe management software
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations (Serv-Safe +)
  • Financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and inventory management
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations
